Cotton Farmers for Economic Development has begun donating sewing machines to women within cotton growing regions.
The organization led by Cde Stewart Mubonderi who is its National Chairman, believes that the cotton growing communities must benefit immensely.
Speaking during an interview, Cde Muponderi said thanks to a lint consortium formed, the women within these cotton growing areas will benefit beyond the normal.
"We believe that cotton growing areas must be able to benefit more from the crop within their region. For that reason, a lint consortium led by Mr Max Chard saw it fit to acquire sewing machines as well as fabric. After receiving training, the women in these areas will be able to sew uniforms for schools within their region and make money outside the cotton that they grow," Cde Mubonderi said.
"We have also acquired 100 solar powered boreholes for the purposes of garden marketing so that women can grow food in these particular areas.
"So far, we have donated 40 sewing machines to Gutu East Constituency and another 40 to Gokwe Nembudzia. A total of 1000 sewing machines will benefit more than 20 000 women to improve their economic prospects and overall well-being."
