ZANU PF staff get fish farming training

ZANU PF’s Environment Department in conjunction with Parks and Wildlife Management Authority has trained staff members in fish farming following the donation of 1 800 tilapia fingerlings at the Party Headquarters onThursday. The donation by the First Lady Cde Auxillia Mnangagwa comes against the backdrop of the ZANU PF party’s vow to empower the livelihoods of the Zimbabwean people as the country moves towards attaining vision 2030.Speaking during the training, Director in the Department Cde Steward Mutizwa said this move would empower the staff to do fish farming even outside “This training programme is expected to empower the staff. This empowerment is a good source of food, income and employment and we are encouraging the youth to take part in such programmes.”Parks provides technical support and fish seed and has been training various communities in fish pond siting, construction, fish farming and harvesting among others. Some of the fish farming tips highlighted by the Parks included keeping the pond clean, keeping a record and sticking to the feeding timetable. ZANU PF constructed a 180 square metre fish pond and it is expected that the first harvest should be in the next few months.Zimbabwe has at least 10 000 inland dams which must be complemented with weirs and ponds in order to meet the demands of the current human population.
