The MDC has admitted that many of its MPs and Councillors are corrupt resulting in the their areas of jurisdiction being under-developed.
Poor service delivery has characterised many urban councils with uncollected litter, unavailability of tap water and potholes among others. President and First Secretary of ZANU PF Cde E.D Mnangagwa has said the country will not tolerate corruption hence the setting up of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission ZACC.
In a statement of admission Secretary General of the MDC-T Douglas Mwonzora during a ZTN programme The Chase last night, clearly stated that the recalled 31 MPs along with 45 Councillors and Mayors from the MDC stable were found wanting.
“What use is a corrupt councillor to the citizens? What use is a corrupt MP to the citizens? Do we do the citizens a favour by removing a corrupt councillor or do we not? We submit that we do the citizens a favour. You cannot hide behind being elected to do corrupt activities,” Mwonzora said.
“We have carefully considered the case of each and every recalled councillor and I can tell you that we have a docket on each and every one of them and I can share it with my friends in the MDC Alliance. It was not malicious it was scientific. What do we do to a corrupt councillor?
“For us to achieve that we must be serious about our zero tolerance to corruption, zero tolerance to violence. We must not allow lawlessness and unconstitutionalism. We must not disrespect of the rule of law.”
