The month of October is significant to Zimbabwe as a nation and region, as that is the month SADC set aside to stand with the country to fight the illegally imposed sanctions, ZANU PF First Secretary and President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said.
President Mnangagwa made the remarks in his address at the National Heroes Acre this morning during the burial of the late Brigadier General, Ruphus Chigudu, who passed on last Thursday.
Brig Gen Chigudu is survived by his wife Vimbai and three children.
“We lay him to rest in this month of October, which is significant to us as a nation and region, as SADC stands with us to fight the illegally imposed sanctions on us.”
He added that Brig Gen Chigudu’s burial “must be a constant reminder of our collective resolve and the regional solidarity towards the unequivocal call for the unconditional removal of the sanctions by Britian, America and their allies.”
Mourners who thronged the National Shrine were waving anti-sanctions banners some of which read, “Sanctions: Hurting ordinary people the most,” “Sanctions Must Go Now,” “Sanctions Violates Human Rights.”
President Mnangagwa also reiterated that the Land Reform is irreversible.
“The land has come and is now united with its people. It has come forever and is irreversible. There are those in our midst who are misreading what Government constitutionally seeks to achieve,” he said.
“In pursuit of a narrow agenda, they think they have now found a credible platform for mobilizing against ZANU PF and its Government. They are desperate; they are doomed.”
He said the New Dispensation is determined towards food security and self-sufficiency as evidenced by the farm mechanization and Pfumvudza programmes that were running concurrently.
President Mnangagwa urged Zimbabweans to remain resolute against the imperialist forces which are bent on reversing the country’s independence gains.
“Let us not betray the sacrifices for self-determination and legacy bequeathed to us by the living and fallen heroes,” President Mnangagwa said.
