President and First Secretary of ZANU PF, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa, today met the Mozambican Minister of Transport and Communication Cde Carlos Mesquita to discuss ways to improve fuel supply into the country.
Cde Mnangagwa has been working tirelessly to ensure that the country moves towards achieving vision 2030.
Speaking after a closed door meeting Cde Mesquita said his meeting was a follow up to the meeting held between President Mnangagwa and his Mozambican counterpart President Nyusi.
“This meeting was to discuss some issues relating to transportation of liquid fuel to Zimbabwe through the pipeline from Beira to Feruka and also to Msasa depot. Both Heads of State met when they were at the Russian Federation, a few weeks ago and they addressed the matter and came again to talk about it.
“Therefore I was instructed by President Filipe Nyusi to come and discuss further with the government of Zimbabwe the way forward because this issue of the pipeline is a lifeline for Zimbabwe. "Therefore both heads of state are really interested to make sure that the logistics of the transportation goes smooth.
“So far there are no big issues to deal with but definitely we have to think about the future because the terminal or the pipeline has got the capacity of 2 million cubic metres per year and the biggest value terminal to Zimbabwe was one point six that’s through the pipeline. It doesn’t mean that there are no other means of transportation because it is happening some transportation is through road and some transportation is coming through rail. So at the end what comes through the pipeline plus the road and rail is slightly higher with one point six.”
Cde Mesquita highlighted that there was need to discuss further with the technical teams from both ends. A meeting has been scheduled for next week to further discuss the matter.
