ZANU PF Secretary General Cde Advocate Jacob Mudenda says the Bi-National Commission between Zimbabwe and Mozambique signals a new chapter in strengthening bilateral ties between the two republics.
Speaking during this Monday's Policy and Coordination meeting held at the Party headquarters, Cde Mudenda said some of the highlights include the establishment of a one-stop-border post at Forbes-Machipanda.
"His Excellency, the President, Cde Dr E.D Mnangagwa paid a State Visit to Mozambique, for the inaugural Zimbabwe and Mozambique Bi-National Commission (BNC) signing ceremony. Following the signing of the BNC, the two countries agreed on multifaceted cooperation in areas including energy, transport, mineral resources exploration, trade, agriculture, health, education, small and medium enterprises, youth empowerment and digital technology. Furthermore, some of the key highlights from the BNC include: establishment of a dry port facility in Beira, modernisation of the oil pipeline, establishment of a one-stop-border post at Forbes-Machipanda, measures to enhance efficiency in the movement of petroleum products from the Beira Port, to facilitate trade between the two countries, it was agreed that tariff and non-tariff barriers be removed under the SADC and continental (AfCFTA) frameworks, formalisation of several traditional transit points in order to facilitate commerce and the free movement of goods and services, availing special travel documents for the inhabitants of border communities for their ease of movement between both countries, the convening of regular meetings of the Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security. The BNC marks a new chapter in strengthening bilateral ties between the two republics."
Cde Mudenda added that in President Mnangagwa's recent commissioning of the Cut Rag tobacco processing planting no bureaucracy should stop investment.
"Furthermore, His Excellency, President Cde Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa, presided over the commissioning of a newly established tobacco processing facility at Cut Rag Processors (CRP) (Private) Limited in Lochinvar, Harare. The commissioning of the US$100 million tobacco processing facility at Cut Rag Processors marks a significant milestone in Zimbabwe’s value-addition and beneficiation drive within the tobacco sector. During the event, His Excellency reiterated that no investment should be constrained by bureaucratic red tape in Zimbabwe."
He added that efforts are being made to improve the lives of people in remote areas.
"A total of 75 schools across Matabeleland North have received mobile science laboratories funded by Hwange Colliery Company, supporting the government’s ongoing STEM education drive. The initiative is set to benefit more than 260,000 learners across seven districts, expanding access to practical science education, particularly for pupils in remote and hard-to-reach communities."
