First Lady fulfills empowerment promises

Following her assessment visit to Epworth to evaluate the economic and social needs, First Lady Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa through the Angel of Hope Foundation has started rolling out empowerment programs in the community. The programs include training women to safely dispose sanitary wear and make soap. The First Lady, who is passionate about women empowerment and development of communities, brought different experts to train the women in a bid to enhance their economic prospects.“ As part of the foundation's work, we carried out a rapid assessment of the needs in the Epworth Community over the past three weeks. The trainees present here were part of the process and am happy to identify with the initiative in that we managed to move from the talking and paperwork to real action.“As women of Epworth, you mentioned a lot of projects, but I thought soap making will quickly make you realise good returns, so I thought to equip you with knowledge on how to make washing soap,” said First Lady Amai Mnangagwa. She urged the women to work in groups to enhance sharing of ideas and empower the community. The First Lady said the training of the women from Epworth was part of the objectives of the foundation.“The foundation has mainly three objectives which include supporting vulnerable populations in accessing health products and services that will enable them to lead healthy lives, to support disadvantaged women and youths in gaining the resources they need to be income secure and earn a dignified living and respond to communities by addressing both economic and social vulnerabilities to enable them to cope with crisis and shocks. The last two were witnessed today,” she added. She encouraged women, to help fight drug abuse and early child marriages in Epworth. The training comprised of the elderly and youths who thanked First Lady Amai Mnangagwa for the initiative that will help them fight poverty in their communities. The trainees were presented with certificates of participation and start- up hampers for soap making.
