MINISTER OF STATE HON NGULUVHE INSPECTS GWANDA–KEZI ROAD CONSTRUCTION PROJECT
Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Matabeleland South Province, Honourable Albert Nguluvhe, conducted an inspection of the Gwanda–Kezi Road, which is currently under construction.
The project, which forms part of the Second Republic’s ongoing commitment to infrastructure development under the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), is now well underway and marks a significant step forward in enhancing connectivity within the province.
The newly constructed stretch is being implemented along a route that diverts from Gwanda to Bulawayo and into Kezi, and will cover a total distance of only 66km.
The strategic redirection shortens travel time between communities and aligns with the government’s vision to improve rural accessibility and economic participation across all districts in Matabeleland South.
During the inspection, Hon Nguluvhe emphasised the importance of road infrastructure in unlocking economic potential, especially in underserved rural areas like Kezi.
He noted that better roads translate to improved access to healthcare, education, and markets, while also attracting investment to the region.
Communities along the road have welcomed the development, expressing optimism that the improved road network will ease the movement of goods and services, particularly for farmers, transport operators, and schoolchildren.
The 66km Gwanda–Kezi road is also expected to significantly reduce vehicle maintenance costs and travel times that have long plagued travellers on the previously dilapidated route.
As construction continues, the project stands as yet another testament to the Second Republic’s commitment to inclusive development and rural transformation in line with Vision 2030.
