President Mnangagwa describes the late Namibian President as a pragmatic leader

By Margaret Kamba

ZANU PF First Secretary and President, His Excellency Cde E.D Mnangagwa has described the late Namibian President, His Excellency President Hage Geingob as a visionary with uttermost distinction.

Speaking at the funeral ceremony held in Namibian over the weekend, President Mnangagwa said the late leader was a great Pillar of support and will be fondly remembered by the people of Zimbabwe.

"In Zimbabwe, we shall fondly remember the late dear brother President Geingob for having worked tirelessly to consolidate the long standing excellent relations that exist between our two countries," President Mnangagwa said.

"I recall that during my state visit to this great country in 2019, my dear brother, the late President Geingob and I resolved to upgrade our relations to the level of comprehensive multi-pronged scope of cooperation.

"The late President Geingob was a liberation hero and a visionary statesman who wholeheartedly served his people with uttermost distinction. He was a pragmatic leader who believed in and worked for the economic empowerment of the people of Namibia and those of our SADC region as a whole."

President Mnangagwa earlier talked about the late President Geingob's involvement in the fight against the illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe.

"He is among the few leaders who used to speak openly against the sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe. Every speech he made at the United Nations, he made sure he appealed to those who imposed sanctions on us to remove them unconditionally. So now we from Zimbabwe have lost a Pillar of support."
