Speaking during a State Banquet held for President Chakwera at the State House in Harare, President Mnangagwa said his counterpart's election victory breeds confidence.
"Allow me to take this opportunity to once again congratulate you on your victory in the June 23, 2020 Presidential Election Re-Run. The election outcome attests to the confidence and trust the people of Malawi have in you and your partner to lead Malawi to a more prosperous future," President Mnangagwa said.
"Your visit today is an expression of our mutual desire to re-ignite and grow the excellent relations between our two countries. These are founded on a shared history, culture, geography and aspirations for a prosperous future.
"Our common membership in the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland intricately intertwined the destinies and fates of our two people."
President Mnangagwa shared the history of the two countries.
"Inter-marriages between our people further strengthened the bonds that bind us. Alive to this reality, our 2013 Constitution of Zimbabwe recognises Chichewa as one of our official languages," he said.
"It is therefore, incumbent upon us as leaders and the present generation to make sure that our relations and historical bonds are continually strengthened for posterity."
