THE revolutionary ZANU PF Party has endorsed the tightening of lock down measures announced by President and First Secretary Cde E.D Mnangagwa yesterday following the spike in local Covid19 infections.
Among the measures announced by President Mnangagwa include an indefinite dawn to dusk curfew which will run from 6pm to 6am.
Speaking during a media briefing, ZANU PF acting Secretary for Information and National Spokesperson Cde Patrick Chinamasa said measures taken by the President are required to combat the spread of Covid19.
“ZANU PF endorses the fresh directive declared by His Excellency the President, Cde ED Mnangagwa to tighten the lockdown measures as a direct response to the spiking positive cases of Covid19 and the rising cases of deaths,” Cde Chinamasa said.
“The measures pronounced by the President and Commander in Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces which have taken effect this morning, are the most relevant and accurate given the nature of the pandemic which we and the world are battling to contain.”
Cde Chinamasa urged the public not to be hoodwinked by some quarters who are claiming that the President has imposed a military curfew thereby shrinking the democratic space.
He said Covid19 is akin to the Spanish Influenza that gripped the world from 1918-19 but was overcome through leaders taking decisive interventions like President Mnangagwa has done.
“Between 1918 and 19, the world was confronted by a deadly Spanish Influenza that killed over 50 million globally. The most affected nation was the USA, as is the case with Covid19 currently. Those who took the correct measures won the war against the pandemic with lesser fatalities. Leaders were called names but later on when the battle against the Spanish flu was won and they were hailed.”
Cde Chinamasa said the revolutionary Party is aware of machinations by some foreign Embassies through their local proxies to undermine the fight against Covid19 by sponsoring illegal demonstrations.
“As ZANU PF, we speak a bold NO! We will not stand and fold our hand watching while hostile forces organise to put our people at risk. No ZANU PF fought for everyone so that we live peacefully and co-exist.”
