Secretary for Mines for the ruling revolution Party, Cde Paul Mangwana says His Excellency, President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa will not be able to benefit from the Amendment Number 3 Bill because it is not a term.
Speaking during a press briefing held at the Party headquarters this Wednesday, the former Secretary for Legal Affairs highlighted that the amendment is in line with the Constitution.
"The President is not going to benefit from an extension of term limits. People are failing to understand something in the Constitution. The Constitution provides that any period below three years is not considered to be a term. The current amendment is extending by two years, which falls short of three years," Cde Mangwana said.
He added that the proposed amendment is in line with the Constitution. There are only three provisions that require a referendum for an amendment, which include the Bill of Rights and the land provisions."
