His Excellency, President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has challenged the Zimbabwe Republic Police ZRP to adopt the use of Artificial Intelligence to increase the Force's efficiency.
This he said during the Graduation ceremony of 999 Police Officers at the ZRP Ntabazinduna Academy Green Square where he also reiterated his commitment to safeguarding the youths from the scourge of drug and substance abuse.
"I challenge you the graduating class to be relentless in fighting crime, deviant behaviour and substance abuse without fear and favour.The deployment of strategies by inter agency teams to fight drug and substance abuse are currently underway. Our roads and highways are vital for trade and cultural exchanges therefore you should make sure they are safe for users. We will never surrender our children and young adults to drug and substance abuse.
"The Police and other road traffic agencies are directed to urgently deploy contemporary technologies including the use of artificial intelligence, drones, surveillance cameras and electronic ticketing to increase efficiency and safety on all traffic corridors."
He added that the graduates have joined the ZRP at a time when there are global challenges and that this requires a police force that is modern. Building public trust while using new technologies is of critical importance.
He said they have been equipped in the fundamentals of law, dealing with cyber crime and acts of terrorism are skills you must improve on following your basic training through this course adding that the country needs police officers men who are patriotic.
"Recruits, you have a duty to serve your nation with humility and patriotism. Innovation and adaptability must be continued for the adoption of NDS2 and Government policies. Let us be vigilant against all enemies within and outside our borders."
President Emmerson Mnangagwa presented certificates to eight students on behalf of the 48 best students. The awards were in the following catergories : Academic prowess , leadership qualities, personal disciplinary records, physical fitness among others.
