Liberation Movements Women’s Leagues share notes

By Staff Writer

Women’s Leagues from the revolutionary Parties in Southern Africa met virtually to share notes ahead of the Summit scheduled for end of July.

ZANU PF, ANC, MPLA, CCM and FRELIMO discussed numerous issues affecting women among them health disparities, limited political representation and social discrimination.

The meeting was aimed at shaping the political path and strengthening solidarity between the Liberation Movements.

It was also aimed at sharing their experiences and consolidating their collective views.

The Women’s League led by Cde Betty Nhambu-Kaseke recommended that the revolutionary Parties promote unity, invest in young women, engage in exchange programmes and create a lasting legacy amongst other things.

Cde Nhambu-Kaseke in her remarks expressed her gratitude for the meeting.

"We sincerely appreciate our principals for affording us this rare opportunity and gather to share ideas ahead of the oncoming Liberation Movements Summit to be held on the 25th to the 28th of July 2025, in Johannesburg, South Africa. As Women’s Leagues of Liberation Movements of Africa, we share a common history which commits us to unite and empower one another. We share a history of women in fighting for freedom and equality alongside their male counterparts, facing the same challenges during the liberation struggle, and have made similar sacrifices during the struggle for independence. We share the same values of solidarity, resilience and determination to see the legacy carried forward by generations to come."

Other officials from the Women’s League included Cde Caroline Tsitsi Mugabe the Secretary for Finance, Cde Juliet Hungoidza the Deputy Secretary for Administration and Cde Nguva Rushwaya.
