President Mnangagwa pledges US$1mil towards Ebola fight

ZANU PF First Secretary and President, His Excellency President Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has pledged US$1 million to support Africa’s response to the escalating Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.

Speaking at a High-Level Virtual Meeting today, President Mnangagwa said the outbreak threatens regional stability and requires unified African solutions. “Health threats transcend borders. Africa's vulnerabilities necessitate decisive African action,” he stated.

Rooted in Zimbabwe’s constitutional mandate and Pan-African values, the President said Zimbabwe stands in solidarity with affected nations. Zimbabwe commits funds to Africa CDC for containment, surveillance, case management, and strengthening regional preparedness.

The pledge supports the Africa CDC and WHO joint response plan. President Mnangagwa linked health security to Vision 2030, noting that disease outbreaks undermine investment and long-term development.

“In accordance with our constitutional mandate to contribute significantly to Africa's social, political, and economic development, and rooted in our Pan-African values, Zimbabwe stands in solidarity with the affected nations,” he said.
