Sports as a tool to curb drug and substance abuse

By Staff Writer

Shurugwi Prisons and Correctional Services, in conjunction with its partner Miners4ED, held a Sports Tournament aimed at helping curb drugs and substance abuse.

Speaking during the event, Miners4ED Vice Chairman Forence Mbizo Mudzengi said it is crucial that sports be used as a tool to curb the menace.

"This event is in line with His Excellency, President Dr E.D Mnangagwa's devolution and decentralization agenda that is Promoting Investment that Accelerates Sports and Recreation for all and it runs under the theme, 'Curbing drug and substance abuse through fitness and wellness'. Through the medium of sports, we are able to promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being, which serves as a strong deterrent against the harmful effects of drug abuse," she said.

"It is truly inspiring to see so many talented and dedicated participants coming together to showcase their sporting abilities. Excellency is never an accident, but it is always the result of high intentions, sincere effort, and intelligent execution."

Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Honourable Marian Chombo this weekend officiated at the Handover Ceremony of a church building to National Apostolic Faith Mission of Holy Ghost Church in Alabama, Kadoma that was financed by Miners For ED.

The Minister reiterated calls for the church to join the "Government in development, eradicating corruption and promoting responsible citizenship in the country as the country targets an upper middle income society in line with National Development Strategies towards Vision 2030 leaving no person or place behind."
