We want free and transparent elections: Cde Abreu

By Margaret Kamba

ZANU PF Deputy Secretary for Transport and Social Welfare, Politburo member Cde James Makamba and FRELIMO's Political Commission for International Relations Cde Alcinda de Abreu have both expressed their two Liberation Movements' commitment to working uplifting the livelihoods of their people.

Speaking during a meeting at the FRELIMO Headquarters in Maputo, Mozambique, the two Politburo members agreed that the threats facing their Parties are the same but they must be determined to work to reverse this threat.

"We are proud to have come here to support FRELIMO through these elections. As you know, our relationship is bound by blood. We are confident that FRELIMO will win these elections and retain power because this is the true representation of the people," Cde Makamba said.

Cde Makamba added that the threats faced by FRELIMO are similar, as shown in the attempts by the Western countries to influence the election outcome in Zimbabwe's Harmonized Elections last year.

Cde Alcinda de Abreu said FRELIMO is doing a lot to ensure that the Party fulfills its agenda of empowering the local people.

"I would like to welcome you to Mozambique and to FRELIMO Headquarters. We are the same people, and these borders are only there to divide us. We are grateful for your presence as ZANU PF, and I believe that this will be a culmination of blood transfusion," she said.

"Thank you for the support you have given FRELIMO in Zimbabwe as we have over 33 000 voters there. We have 17 million voters including those who live in the Diaspora and we expect that the majority will vote for FRELIMO.

"We want peaceful, free and transparent elections because our mission for total and complete independence is not complete. We must therefore unite and fight for the economic independence of our countries."

FRELIMO's Presidential candidate is Cde Daniel Chapo and the 9 October elections are expected to have him emerge victorious.
